STHS’s baseball team returns with a shift in the coaching staff. Head coach, Chris Shelly, has stepped down and replacing him will be Dennis Primavera. Coach Bond returns as does a former Spartan baseball coach, Brian Finn. The team is looking forward to big seasons from seniors Martin Pauwels and Jeffrey Hammons. The Spartans will play a tough schedule but figure to compete for conference and district championships.

Spartan softball has also undergone a coaching change. Replacing Ed Jones is Curt Cyliax. Coach Cyliax inherits a team that features pitchers, Kim Machalette and Jennifer Hammons. Machalette is a senior, while Hammons is only a sophomore. The team relies heavily on the leadership of junior, Brianna Littlepage and the speed of fellow junior, Jewell Ringgold.

The boys’ lacrosse team is led by Coach Bill Krewson. Coach Krewson should have great balance with talented players in each grade level. Senior, Brendan Doyle, plans to attend Catholic University and play lacrosse. With seniors Malik Ball, Jamie Dougherty, and Brandan O’Hara, this group has big-game experience.

Headlining the girls’ lacrosse team is UConn signee, Juli Cardamone. This season she is within range of breaking the school’s all-time scoring record. Cardamone also has strong senior running mates in Riley Greenleaf and Marie Brockman. Both of these seniors are headed to college lacrosse: Greenlead to IUP and Brockman to Gannon. Former Spartan, Maggie Canavan, enters her first season as the head coach. Her experience playing at Bloomsberg will be a great asset to this team.
