The Spartan cheerleading squad is coached by Deb Buckley. This year’s team will be led by seniors Kate Bray and Dalaina Lindmar.
Coach Chris Mazurek is back and the Spartans will be looking to Chelsea Wyche, Megan Leibfreid, and Jacob David step into prominent roles.
Spartan field hockey head coach, Linda Nixon, is a fixture within the Springfield program. These Spartans will be looking for leadership from offensive specialist, Marley Berger, and defensive stalwart, Briana Buckley. Coach Nixon will also rely on new goalie, Isabelle Boles.
The Spartan football team is led by Springfield alum, Coach Chris Shelly. The 2015 Spartans are the defending District One Champions, and have a daunting task replacing some very productive seniors from last season. This year, Springfield will be counting on Justin Hill as he transitions to quarterback. The defense is led by middle linebacker, Brett Righter.
Coach Tom Vizza had a special golf season last year with a Spartan pushing all the way to a state medal. The 2015 Spartans are young and on the rise. Preseason tryouts saw Jack Cornelly and Gavin Schmitt post the best scores.
Boys: Coach Dan Meder had his 2014 Spartan soccer team advance in the District Playoffs last season. This year he brings back key contributors: Mike Bonacci, Corey Cottone, and Trevor McCaffrey. Coach Meder also was looking forward to goalie, Kevin Sykes’ senior season. Unfortunately, an injury ended his season before it began. His leadership will be key, even though he’s not on the field.
Girls: The girls’ soccer program is directed by head coach, Suzette Wolf. Last season, these Spartans qualified for the District Playoffs but saw their postseason end in round one. The 2015 Spartans will rely on young, talented players. Sophomores Mary Kate Smith and Lindsey Smith, along with junior Emily Giampietro will be counted on heavily. Katie Fitzpatrick saw action in goal last year, and takes over full time in 2015.
Coach Tom Hawley returns to the helm to lead the 2015 Spartan tennis team. Expectations are rising for junior, Camille Harrison, who has been the team’s most consistent player. Sophomores, Gianna Fuls-Hopkins and Allie Cottone had strong rookie years last season, and look to take another step in the right direction.
The water polo program is captained by head coach, Bill Hence. The girls’ program has lost very productive players over the past two seasons. This year they will be counting on Margrethe Leis, Elizabeth Leibfreid, and goalie, Meg Chandler. The boys’ program has been building over the past two seasons, and Coach Hence hopes this year it will pay off. Key contributors look to be Sam DelRio, Jake Corcoran, and goalie, Anthony Bosca.
