Januhairy 2016. That’s the name of the hair-donation-idea devised by two local girls, Emily Henry and Hannah Grothusen. They came up with the idea when their classmates cut their hair and donated it for the Middle School’s Day of Service.
When we first ran this story in August of 2014, the idea was in its infancy. Now the girls have over 100 participants registered and have partnered with a local salon for help cutting the hair. We wanted to remind Springfield residents about the event in hopes they have friends and family members that would be willing to donate their hair for this great cause.
The girls have establishing connections through help from their parents. The Middle School principal, Mrs. Davis, and high school principal, Dr. Rittenhouse are assisting the girls with planning the event.
The girls would like your help in donating 2 things:
- HAIR: Register to donate 8 inches of hair for Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths, which collects hair to make wigs for people who have lost their hair from chemotherapy. Check out the requirements here.
- MONEY: Contribute $10 or more to benefit CHOP’s oncology ward.
Student volunteers from Eastern will be doing the first cut, and then licensed hairdressers doing a simple clean-up. Avant Apres Salon in Erdenheim is offering 30% discounts on followup cuts too.
The day of will be a clean cut and anyone wanting a “new do” or something more will get at 30% off coupon to come back to Avant Apres Salon for a future “do”! You guys are doing a great job!!
