When it comes to volunteering, Laurie is the leader of the pack. You’ll find her all over Springfield helping out in all kinds of ways. What drives her? She can’t say “No.”
Laurie got started in volunteering when she met fellow Springfield resident, Colleen Robinson, of the former Springfield Community Foundation. At the time, they needed help, and she was looking for something to do. Below are some questions we asked her in order to get to the bottom of all she does:
What organization(s) do you volunteer for and what type of work do you do?
I do event management, fundraising and PR for:
- Oreland Lions
- Southeastern Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra
- Enfield Erdenheim Home and School Partnership
- Rare Breed documentary (a movie in the making about Lansdale Catholic’s football team)
- Operation Enduring Warrior
I also volunteer at Giggles and Tickels Toybrary. There I have fun and play.
What do you like most about volunteering?
I love seeing an event go from conception to pulling it off. Hopefully making a lot of money to help other organizations.
What advice do you have for others looking to volunteer?
Just jump in and have fun. Everyone has a talent or a skill that can help out in some way.
Do you know of any volunteer opportunities with your organization(s)?
Every organization needs help.
What do you like most about Springfield?
I think my favorite thing about Springfield is when the power goes out. I love reading Proud Parents and no matter who is out of power, someone is always offering to help in some way. By donating generators, offering their homes for people to charge devices and to either keep cool or warm up. I love that people just offer to help anyone.
Do you have a favorite business?
I have three: Halligan’s Pub, Bliss and Esposito’s.
Do you have a favorite event in Springfield?
Taste of Springfield
What do you like to do in your free time?
Free time? Even when I have chill time, I really don’t know how to do it. I need to be doing something.
What superpowers would you choose if you could choose one?
I would love more than one superpower. Superman has many powers that come in handy so anyone of his.
If you had just one wish, what would it be?
For kids not to get sick or to be hungry.
Have you traveled internationally
Nope, I’m lucky I get to Jersey!
Which travel destination in the US was your favorite?
I love Oahu, Hawaii. It was cool that the front view from our hotel was the city, and the back view was complete serenity.
What’s something you can’t live without?
My cell phone. I am constantly on it.
If you see Laurie around town, please thank her for all she does to make this community a great place to live.
