Maple Trees, Treats, and Sugar Day

MapleTappingAre you suffering from cabin fever? Get the kids out of the house for an adventure. Wissahickon Environmental Center is a great local resource, and is hosting two events this week.

Maple Trees and Treats

Once a month, they host Thursday Tots for 3-5 year olds at the Treehouse, up the hill from Forbidden Drive and Northwestern Avenue. Put on your boots and explore nature for an hour with your kids.

This Thursday is Maple Trees and Treats from 1-2pm. The kids look for the perfect Maple Tree and get to taste the sap from the tree. They learn about the Maple Sugar process and get to sample the finished product on pancakes.

Registration is required. Call 215-685-9285 or email WEC@phila.gov to register. The cost is $2 per child.

There will be ongoing maple sugaring demonstrations, mini pancakes served with real maple syrup, a taste test of different pancake toppings, as well as freshly made maple candy to taste. Pennsylvania Maple Syrup products will be available for purchase.

No registration is required and it’s open to all ages.
