Scott R. Smith is a well-traveled man who is serious about acupuncture. His Erdenheim-based business treats many common ailments with patience and care. Scott not only loves his dog, but also loves living and working in Springfield.
Since 2007, Scott R. Smith has been providing acupuncture to Springfield Township and the surrounding areas. He is board-certified and state-licensed in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine. Among many other things, Scott’s acupuncture and oriental medicine helps relieve some common ailments like low back pain, neck pain, sciatica, tennis elbow, and knee pain.
We asked him to answer some of our questions, and below are his responses:
What makes you or your business different?
Most of the practitioner’s in this area only offer acupuncture. My treatments combine acupuncture with bodywork (when necessary for the condition being treated) and my experience has shown greater treatment outcomes by combining the two. I also studied Chinese herbal medicine and can prescribe formulas for various conditions. Some conditions only improve to a certain point with acupuncture alone. Many require the addition of herbal medicine to succeed.
Outcall appointments are also available for those unable to leave a house or facility. I don’t know of any other acupuncturist offering this service.
I’ve also started to accept insurance. I’m doing this as a service to people that have difficulty paying out of pocket. Not all plans reimburse for acupuncture. Currently I’m able to accept Highmark FEP. In the coming months Cigna, Aetna, and US HealthCare will be added. For insurance updates please call me, visit my website, or email me. (Visit his directory listing here.)
Why should people buy your products/services?
My treatments are affordable and effective. I don’t like to rush, so the whole hour is devoted to you which gives me time to treat your main complaint and any other issues at the same time.
It allows for cupping, massage, counseling, or electro-stimulation, all at no extra charge. Do some research on other practitioner’s in the area and you’ll see that their treatments are $90 and up.
Why did you choose to work and live in Springfield?
I grew up in North Wales, PA and became familiar with this area after my parents moved to Chestnut Hill 18 years ago. I was moving back from SD and looking for an office with sign exposure and easy city/suburb access. I found a great spot!
On the Personal Side…
Do you have a favorite restaurant?
I love Cisco’s in Flourtown. It reminds me of a place I’d frequent in the Jemez Mountains in NM. It’s comfortable, simple, has delicious food, friendly people, and at a great price.
Do you have a favorite event in Springfield?
I live in Wyndmoor and enjoy the carnival and fireworks that follow every June. I have a front row seat!
What do you like to do in your free time?
My undergrad is in music so I spend a good deal of time writing and recording.
What is an interesting fact about yourself?
I’ve dabbled in voiceover and acting having appeared in dozens of local and national TV commercials, training videos, radio spots etc. It’s something I haven’t pursued since 2010, but I am currently revisiting.
Do you support any causes or non-profit organizations?
I make monthly donations to Francisvale Home for Smaller Animals out in Radnor. It’s a no-kill shelter for dogs and cats and where I adopted my dog Phil.
