Springfield 2014 Spring Sports Post-Season Wrap-up

Springfield Township High School had a busy post season in spring sports. Softball made the District Playoffs, Baseball won the District Championship, and Boys Track & Field won the PA State AA Championship! We’ve outlined all of the details of these sports and more below. We are very proud of you Spartans!

Suburban One District Meet

Sydni Stovall – 400m – 1st place. Sydni’s time of 58.55s breaks the school record in the 400m set in 1981 by Lori Lancaster. The previous mark of 59.04 was set 33 years ago.
Jhaloni Johnson – 100m – 3rd place, 200m – 2nd place. Jhaloni broke his own school records in both.
Chris Stone – high jump – 1st place, pole vault – 1st place, javelin – 1st place, long jump – 9th place. Chris set a new League Championship Meet Record in the high jump. Chris’ jump of 6′ 9 1/4″ was #2 among all schools in PA. This effort is a new STHS school record and personal record for Chris as well. Chris also won the pole vault event (13-6) and the javelin throw (173’11”). Chris ranks among the top in the state AA in those events as well.
Olivia Blackton – mile run – 2nd place. Olivia’s time is of 5:23s is #3 in STHS history.
The boys’ 4×100 relay shattered the existing school record.

PA State Meet

Jhaloni Johnson – 200m – 1st place, 100m – 2nd place
Chris Stone – high jump – 1st place, pole vault – 2nd place, javelin – 7th place
The boys’ team accumulated more points than any other AA school in the state, earning them a team State Championship!
Sydni Stovall – 400m 5th place, 800m – 5th place

District Playoffs

The Spartan baseball team has won three playoffs games behind the pitching arms of Julian Salzer, Ed Bacino, and Jeff Hammons. Aggressive base running by Ian Quigg and timely hitting from Marten Pauwels and Chris Binet have helped the team defeat Bristol (9-3), New Hope-Solebury (8-6) and Philadelphia Academy Charter (10-0) on their way to their fourth consecutive Class AA District One title and berth in the state playoffs.

The Spartans lost 6-5 to Notre Dame-Green Pond.

Post Season Awards
